Editorial: Super Bowl crimes ... Let’s hope judges throw perpetrators for big loss

Super Bowl? More like super bummer.

In North Naples and Bonita Springs the Saints weren’t marching in. More like the devils breaking in.

By now you may have seen news reports about more-than-unsportsmanlike activity before and during the Super Bowl in that area. Three of the four big house burglaries in Bonita over the weekend were reported while residents were attending festivities before and during Sunday’s game. In both areas, Comcast says someone deliberately sliced a fiber-optic cable at East Terry Street near Bonita Grande Drive, knocking out service — and the game — to about 2,500 customers, including the Bentley Village retirement center.

If the Lee County Sheriff’s Office apprehends suspects in any of these cases, the alleged perpetrators ought to hope the judges and juries do not include sports fans.

While the Saints reigned supreme in Miami, the people in our community could have really used some saints in their corner over the weekend.
