Cool temps and windy conditions didn’t stop these runners from the 10-mile trek through Marco Island

Windy and chilly temperatures didn’t stop runners in the Second Annual Marco Bridge Run to benefit the Marco Island YMCA on Sunday.

The 10-mile trek took runners through the Marco Estates, the hills of Marco, Key Marco and the grand dame, the Goodland Bridge.

A record 200 started at 7 a.m. in the beauty and brutality of the windy run. Nearly 150 runners finished, which was a record for the young event.

Top runners in key categories received trophies and some cash.

Top runners, and $500 winners each, were the overall male winner, Mike Korir 34, of Hollywood, Fla., who ran the distance in 55 minutes, 34.6 seconds. The top female, Katy Werchek, 28, of Naples, covered the distance in one hour, nine minutes, 5.8 seconds.

The overall Master Winners were Bart Matthew Garrett, 46, of Southington, Conn., in 1:07.06 and Amy Rappaport, 29, of Califon , N.J., in 1:16:57. Both earned $400.

Overall grand masters winners crossing the finish were Dalessandro Garrett, 52 of Califon, N.J., in 1:11.14 and Jeannie Rice, 61, of Concord, Ohio, in 1:17.12. Each received $300.

Overall senior grand masters were Paul Cuttge, 60, of Naples, in 1:11:17 and Kathy Curtis, 61, also of Naples, in 1:33:46. They also received $300 each.

The top Marco male runner was Joel Gonzalez, 34, going the distance in 1:09:19 and the top female was Melissa Saitta, 34, in 1:15.26. Each received $100.

Other top Marco entrants also did well, placing in the top 10 or better.

For the men, Mark Canfield, 21, placed third in the 20-24 class in a time of 1:27:56. Lenny Moore, 42, was 10th in the 40-44 class in a time of 1:42:41. In the 45-49 class James Sullivan was fifth in 1:39:10. Dave Brink, 53, was sixth in the 50-54 class, in a time of 1:50:41. In the 55-59 class, Paul Tateo, 55, ran to second in 1:40:20. Ray Feeley, 63, was sixth in the 60-64 class in 1:45:03.

Craig Carlson, 72, ran to first in the 70-74 class in 1:34:06. Michael Collins, 79, was first in the 75 and over class in 1:57:13.

For the women Lauren Roberta, 24, was third in the 20-24 class in 1:23:13. Lisa Dolezel, 35, in the 35-39 class, was second in 1:19:40. Roe Tamagni, 43, placed eighth in the 40-44 class in 2:17:47. In the 45-49 class Shelli Connelly, 47, ran to second in 1:35:31, Dawn Snyder, 47, was third in 1:40:20 and Kimberly McIntosh, 47, 10th in 2:17:43. Nancy Dworkin, 50, was ninth in the 50-54 class in 1:46:11.

Sally Bataran, 59, raced to first place in the 55-59 class in 1:33:64. Nancy Marino, 62, ran to first in the 60-64 class in 1:41:17, with Sammy Miller, 60, second in 1:55:09.

After Trotter and The Yacht Club gets finished we wont have a Bridge and it will be a Ferry Run.
