Feasting on Oriental and far-Eastern delicacies, supporters of the Island Montessori Academy’s Year of the Tiger fundraising event Friday might have been forgiven for thinking they were in culinary heaven.
On the menu were exotic creations like Indian samoosas, vegetarian pad Thai, Vietnamese summer rolls, channa masala, Vietnamese sticky rice, dim sum, shrimp sei meu, cilantro vegetable sushi, roasted pig, chicken tandoori and shumai.
Responsible for the mouth-watering fare was Summer Day Market & Cafe, while entertainment — culminating in a spectacular fire dance — was provided by the Cirque de Soleil-like Animate Objects Physical Theater troupe out of Miami.
The Academy with a mission statement of providing a “nurturing, balanced learning environment that fosters responsibility and cooperation through academic and social development,” is headed by Lisa Nguyen.
On hand for the evening was Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce President Vip Grover, who said functions like this are intended to finance the next phase of the school, which will cater for children up to the 6th Grade. Presently it carries children through 3rd Grade.
Grover also paid tribute to the organizing committee, in particular Lynn Nguyen as well as Summer Day Market & Cafe.
