Car rental $1 surcharge part of legislation aimed at keeping Cubs in Arizona

— Legislation to keep the Chicago Cubs spring-training home in Arizona is becoming clearer.

Legislation proposed for consideration by a state House committee today would add a $1 surcharge on auto rentals and an 8 percent surcharge on tickets to spring-training games played in Maricopa County.

Phoenix Republican Rep. John McComish had previously introduced a bill but left blank the amount of the surcharges.

The Cubs last month rejected an offer to move to Naples, choosing to continue training in Arizona if the state and the City of Mesa can come up with $84 million to build them a new stadium.
