NAPLES — An East Naples Middle School social studies teacher found himself in jail Saturday after Collier County deputies said he punched and kicked his wife.
William Brian Heck, 53, of the 4000 block of Mohawk Place, East Naples, was arrested at home and charged with battery.
A Sheriff’s Office report said deputies responded to a home in the 4000 block of Rose Avenue in East Naples Saturday night, in reference to a domestic violence call.
Deputies found Heck’s wife, whose name was not released, with a swollen upper lip, bruising on the inside of the upper lip, swelling and redness on her right cheek, a laceration on her right elbow and bruising on her back.
She told deputies that she and Heck had been out for dinner and drinks at Castaways Backwater Cafe. Reports said the couple got into an argument during dinner because the victim was upset that Heck had turned off her oldest daughter’s Internet connection and not consulted her.
As a result, reports said the victim left Heck at the restaurant without money and drove home in the vehicle that they both arrived in.
After picking up the couple’s 3-year-old, the victim went home and locked herself in her oldest daughter’s room. When Heck arrived, reports said he broke the bedroom door and got a hold of the victim.
“She ended up on her stomach, face down, on the floor, between the bed and the closet,” the report said.
Reports said Heck started punching his wife in the face and hitting her back, while the 3-year-old was present in the same room.
“She advised him to stop or she will die,” the report said.
Once Heck stopped attacking her, the victim told deputies she grabbed her daughter and quietly walked out of the house. She drove over to a friend’s house nearby and called 911.
The victim also told deputies that during the couple’s 4-year marriage, there’s been a history of unreported physical abuse that typically happens when Heck consumes alcohol.
When deputies arrived at the couple’s home on Mohawk Place, reports said they knocked on the door and rang the doorbell multiple times before Heck cracked the door open.
Heck told deputies he was afraid and closed the door, before opening a nearby window, the report said.
The report said he eventually walked out of the home and was taken into custody, five minutes after deputies told him that they couldn’t speak with him through the window.
As of Sunday afternoon, Heck had posted $2,500 bond and was out on bail. Heck could not be reached for comment.
