As if extended winter cold were not enough of a menace, Florida’s citrus industry is fighting a disease called citrus greening that ruins crops.
It is so serious that growers are mounting their defense collectively; that includes a tax on themselves to fund specialized, urgent scientific research.
While it is important to champion options to agribusiness — as well as tourism and home building — to keep Florida going, our state can ill afford to have any major component die off prematurely. We prefer to root for the fruit. May citrus prevail.
