— Retired Immokalee educator Kathy Ryan has filed her candidacy for the District 3 School Board seat, which covers parts of North Naples and Golden Gate.

Ryan taught school in Collier County for 30 years, working at Immokalee Middle and Immokalee High schools and serving as the district administrator for summer school before retiring in September 2000. She ran unsuccessfully for School Board in 2006.

The District 3 seat, which covers parts of North Naples and Golden Gate, is held by Steve Donovan. Donovan has yet to file for reelection, but has until June 18 to do so. Ryan is currently facing a primary race against Naples Journal Publisher Reg Buxton.

Board members serve four-year terms. Members must live in the district they represent, but are elected in nonpartisan contests by voters countywide.

The 2010 primary election is scheduled for Aug. 24. The general election is Nov. 2.
