NAPLES — One lucky Southwest Florida resident hit the jackpot this holiday season — literally.
A ticket bought in East Naples was one of the nine $1 million top prize winners of the Florida Lottery’s Holiday Millionaire Raffle drawing Thursday.
In addition to the new millionaire, who has yet to claim the prize, tickets sold in Lakeland, Miami, Sunrise, Ocoee, Palm City, St. Petersburg Beach, Spring Hill and Hastings will also be able to claim the $1 million prize.
The sixth annual raffle randomly selected 2,034 winning numbers, of which the first nine numbers drawn won $1 million. In addition to the nine $1 million top prizes, the Lottery also awarded 10 prizes of $50,000, 15 prizes of $5,000 and 2,000 prizes of $250.
Florida Lottery spokeswoman Amanda Marquardt said the Naples ticket was bought at the Hess station at 1410 N. Airport Road, and unlike regular Lotto, the vendor does not get a bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Florida Lottery officials said that the Holiday Millionaire Raffle game offered the best odds of winning $1 million among all Lottery games.
The $20 tickets went on sale Nov. 13 and were available through midnight on Wednesday. Since not all of the one million tickets were sold, only 969,516 tickets were actually entered in the drawing.
Several Southwest Florida residents also hit the jackpot this holiday season — just not as big.
A Holiday Millionaire Raffle ticket sold at a Naples Circle K store won $5,000.
Meanwhile, 47 tickets sold in Naples, one in Marco Island, eight tickets in Bonita Springs, four tickets in Estero, 47 in tickets Fort Myers, 14 tickets in North Fort Myers, 10 tickets in Fort Myers Beach, and five tickets in Englewood all won $250.
Marquardt said the raffle prizes must be claimed within 180 days from the draw date and that players must have their winning ticket in hand to claim a prize.
The $250 prizes may be claimed at any Florida Lottery retailer and the $5,000 and $50,000 prizes may be claimed at any Florida Lottery district office.
However, the $1 million prizes must be claimed at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.
This year’s Holiday Millionaire Raffle generated approximately $7.5 million in transfers to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
