Letter To The Editor: Seeking the facts

It’s that time again, the city council election. Candidates come out with the “facts” about all things they want us to believe, spelling out with great clarity what they want us to think. It makes good reading but it doesn’t always make good facts.

Letters to the editor are also somewhat confusing of the facts, like Isabella Marcotrigiano saying that Chuck Kiester is responsible for the STRP not being what it was supposed to be. If my memory serves me well, Chuck was against the STRP from the beginning. The men who are running for re-election are a known quantity.

But the new candidate, what about him? Mr. Magel comes with a very prestigious background. He also tells us about the facts. Whose facts are these, his or his mentor’s, the man who made us buy a pig-in-a-poke water system some years ago that we have spent many millions of dollars trying to make work properly? We know the answer to that.

I am always suspect of a newcomer who tells you how great he is. I wonder what his real intentions are for Marco Island, especially when he is backed by our ‘water man’ who also wants us to buy an electric system. We don’t need a big-city type on Marco. We need small-town common sense, something they don’t teach in college. We need a known property, and that is found in the two men who have served us in the past, Chuck Kiester and Ted Forcht, as well as a man who has shown his concerns for Marco, Joe Batte. Let’s put them in to help make our ‘team’ of councilors represent us, instead of someone else with an axe to grind.

Follow the money trail if you want to know what to expect from Larry Magel. In the campaign finance reports filed with the City last month, Larry out-raised and out-spent the other three candidates combined. This is fiscal conservatism? It looks more like "the best government money can buy" to me.

And he is still looking for contributions. The letter I received today was looking for money. Chuck,Ted nor Joe haven't asked for any.

I have 4 registered voters in my household. My spouse and I and 2 of our voting age children. All FOUR of us received his mailing yesterday. All I can say is after the display of utter ridiculous spending (each one must have cost at least $1.00) and to not take a little time to delete duplicate addresses to the household and just send one brochure has led me to be very annoyed. This type of spending is NOT what I want on council.

Our household also has four registered voters and..........YES, we all received a letter from Candidate Magel. I checked with some friends and YES, everyone registered to vote in their households each received one. This is a good indication of poor fiscal decision making, and lack of attention to detail. Apparently, he has more money to spend than all the other candidates put together and seems compelled on spending it!! In previous campaigns our home received one letter and it was addressed to "Head of Household". Perhaps Candidate Magel needs some more experience in Government before running for our City Council.

Our next Council is going to have to make some very tough financial decisions and our house is voting for Keister, Forcht and Batte. We like the sound of Joe Batte, he has stayed the course and is once again offering his service to our community. We have also heard that he is tighter than the bark on a tree and that's the man I want looking after my taxpayer money.

What a waste. It seems the Magel mindset is, "I've got it, so I'll spend it"..........reminds me of the Arceri gang, and look at the problems they caused. When you look at your utility bill you can thank the Arceri gang for the ever increasing cost of just enjoying Marco....it didn't used to be like this.

I wonder how many registered voters there are in the Magel household and if they each received a letter from their candidate??

If you want more of the same and keep the Arceri gang in power, vote for "MORE MONEY MAGEL".
