Should Lee County work to get the Orioles for spring training?

Opportunity knocks.

Civil lawsuits challenging the Baltimore Orioles’ move to Sarasota for spring training seem to give Lee County another trip to the plate to bring the team to City of Palms Park, which is being vacated by the Boston Red Sox for a new complex nearby in Fort Myers.

Granted, there would be a sense of payback because Sarasota wooed the Orioles after they’d been thought to be a cinch to come to Fort Myers from Fort Lauderdale.

But this is more of a business proposition; it would keep City of Palms humming and be good for spring-training baseball up and down the West Coast. The more teams, the better and stronger.

Collier County angling for the Chicago Cubs to come for spring training isn’t the only baseball story in our community, though the stories are all connected.

Go get ’em, Lee County.
