I could write a book about the Antiques Road Show personnel coming to Marco to visit the new Historical Museum, that is. The Historical Society held an Appraisal Faire a few years ago and it was such a success that we decided to repeat it.
From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, from you can take your own treasured antiques to the museum for appraisal for a small fee. Whether it’s a family heirloom or a lucky purchase from a garage sale, wouldn’t you like to know if that teapot is genuine Meissen or a clever fake? Wouldn’t it be fun to find out that the little statue you picked up in somebody’s front yard or at some dusty secondhand store is worth a hundred times what you paid for it?
This is your chance. If you have ever watched the show on PBS, you know the surprises and delights that can be discovered. Come along and join the fun. You must be able to carry the item into the museum this time, no large pieces of furniture. Veteran appraisers Nan Chisholm, Wes Cowan and Ken Farmer will be on hand again to estimate the value of these items, and Grace Alter, of Naples, will appraise jewelry. We hope to see you there!
Marion Nicolay and Betsy Perdichizzi, of the Marco Island Historical Society, compile this report on a weekly basis for the Eagle. Shirley Beckwith oversees the archiving of photos for MIHS.
