Politicians make stops in SW Florida to discuss oil spill

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson have scheduled stops Wednesday in Southwest Florida to talk about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Nelson, D-Fla., plans to meet with Florida Gulf Coast University scientists as he unveils proposed legislation to assess the federal plan for tracking underwater traces of oil, gas and other toxins from the Deepwater Horizon spill.

Mack, R-Fort Myers, has scheduled a visit to the Bonita Springs corporate offices of Containment Resources, which manufactures and distributes containment boom.

A statement from Mack’s office says he will discuss the ongoing clean-up effort in the Gulf and stress the need to devote more resources to the response.
