Tennis players doubled their pleasure in the YMCA Rally for the Cure Mixed Doubles Tournament.
It was another great turnout for the “Rally for the Cure” benefit.
We had a 44 players participate in the event, which came to 22 teams of mixed doubles, ladies doubles, and men’s doubles. We used a round robin format where each team plays eight games against each team. Scores were kept, but not necessarily for winners, more to keep it fun and a bit competitive.
The team with the most points was Brock Wilson and Jackie Pham with 26. Nicki and Doug Davis came close with 25 and Carolina Nixon and Martha Spaulding came in with 23.
All the teams enjoyed the tournament and everyone came out with great spirits. We wanted to make this a fun tournament for everyone that participated and we did it all for a great cause. Everyone played a four rounds of tennis, participated in the silent auction and enjoyed a barbecue lunch.
Overall, The Greater Marco Family YMCA raised $1,600 from the “Rally for the Cure” benefit tournament.
As this is a great cause, our tennis tournament volunteers, Betsy Conte, Betsy Sanford, Fritzi Holmes and Nancy Sroka decided to put on the silent auction. We had 38 items donated from our local friends and businesses.
Some of the businesses and individuals that donated to our auction were The Marco Hilton, New York Trends, Ace Hardware, The Blue Mangrove Gallery, Rick’s Island Salon, Harbor Goldsmith, Your Island Home, West Marine, The Marco Marriott, Kretch’s Restaurant, Skin Renewal, Georgie’s and the Shoe Resort, Marco Island Florist, Joey’s Pizza, Carrabba’s, Su’s Garden, LaScarpa, Summer Day Market and Café, Gene’s 5th Ave Florist, Keep in Touch, Video Showcase, Brock and Julie Wilson, Marie and Doug Johnson, Nowell and Betsy Conte, Bill Marshall, tennis pro, Jennifer Bristow, fitness director, Jewelry by Tiffany, Island Garden Center, Greg Gadoua, tennis pro, Island Print Shop, Olavi and Susan Karr and Maxime’s Bistro.
