Stepson steals and pawns stepdad’s tools, Collier deputies say

A 23-year-old Golden Gate Estates man was arrested by Collier deputies Friday after stealing and pawning his stepfather’s tools worth several hundreds of dollars, authorities say.

Richard Edward Makely, of the 5900 block of Desoto Boulevard North, was charged with 19 counts of grand theft, 19 counts of dealing in stolen property and 16 counts of defrauding a pawnbroker.

According to reports, Makely stole more than 250 mechanic tools belonging to his stepfather, totaling an estimated $130,000.

Deputies also discovered that Makely was pawning the tools. His pawning history is from Jan. 14 to July 23 at three different pawn shops in Collier County, reports said.
