Bridge Scene: When in doubt, trust your partner

The word TRUST is a simple five letter word which requires one person to place themselves in the hands of another. It indicates that you will not harm, that you will do your best for the person. Trust me! You are being asked to rely on the integrity, ability or character of another. Trust implies depth, and assurance of such feeling that may not always be supported by truth, but each person has to accept the consequences in case of failure.

In the game of bridge each player must trust their partner and accept the failed outcome or rewards of doing so. Bridge is a team game and a team indicates more than one player.

One player must not hog the bidding or take a flyer on a bid when the signals indicate passing. Also one player must not freeze on a bid when a bid is clearly indicated. Each player must describe his/her hand to the best of their ability and listen to what is said and act on the response. But never lie to your partner, if you have no points pass, if you have a big point count, send that message, if you have to take control of the bidding, do it, but try to always send the right message. Bridge has many conventions to aide in describing a hand, and good communications is the key to success.

The World Bridge Federation sponsors a Women’s Bridge Club on Bridge Base On-line with money prizes and surprise gifts. They are offering Individual games and Pairs games but show the times for the games in Central European Time. There is a six hour difference between European Central Time and Eastern Standard Time. They are offering a brand new daily individual game starts at 00.40 CET which is 6.40pm EST; this game is restricted to advanced and better players.

Starting this month the Tournament will have Daily Money Prizes. For more information go to www.wbfwomensbridgeclub.org becoming a member is not difficult. If you have questions on how to join go to diana_eva on BBO.

Bridge Base online is free, but to play in the various tournament there is a charge of one or two dollars. You bank your money, (e.g. twenty dollars into your account using a credit card) and when you win money your winnings are added to your account and when you play your admission fee is deducted. It works very smoothly. All other Tournaments on BBO are open to men and women, just log on and select either a game in which you have to pay or a free game, but the free games are slower.
