Tweaking brings Erickson golf title

Between cold weather and illness, Pat Erickson’s 2010 didn’t start off well when it came to golf.

“I wasn’t playing often and then felt my golf stroke needed work,” she said. “Evan Holewinski (assistant golf professional) tweaked my swing big time. He showed me what I needed to do to hit the ball better and it paid off in me hitting the ball cleaner.”

It also paid off in another Island Club Women’s Championship title.

This year she won her fifth title in match play, downing former champ Mary Deklyn, 3-and-2. Coming in third was also a former champ, Ann Betz.

“Mrs. Erickson is an exceptional athlete, with a very consistent game,” Michael DeJordy, Island Club golf professional, said. “She is definitely a pressure player. She never gives up. She is a true champion and represents the Island Club in a great way. She and Mr. (Larry) Paladino, men’s champion, played very well throughout their tournaments and each round was a pleasure to watch. I am very happy to be a part of the tournaments and it is an honor to see such great competitive golf.”

The Flight 1 champion was Sandy Allen, followed by Gerri Marchetti and Kathy O’Connell.

Flight 2 was won by Eleanor Lord, followed by Brenda Banker and Georgia Pavin.

Flight 3 went to Rosemary Zakoian, with Carolee Levison second and Louann Voss third.

Flight 4 champion was Andrea McCreanor, followed by Judy Stanojev and Lenore Else.
