What began with a Lee County sheriff’s deputy asked to make a well-being check at a Fort Myers home Friday ended with the discovery of skeletal remains of a body.
The deputy went to 6242 St. Andrews Circle North in Fort Myers and found Gail Andrews, 61, living in what are described as deplorable conditions. As a result, a call was placed to the Florida Department of Children and Families and an investigator responded to begin an investigation.
Sheriff's detectives also looked into the whereabouts of Andrews' mother. A search warrant was granted and serviced at the home Friday and skeletal remains, believed to be the elderly mother, were found in the home. The remains were not in plain view due to the condition of the residence.
Authorities say it may be a few weeks before the cause of death can be determined.
Foul play is not suspected.
