Letter to the Editor: A new vision

You will find a new vision in Dick Adair the pastor of the United Church of Marco Island. He came to Marco Island from Sun City Arizona where he took a small church of just over a hundred folks and in eight years built a fiscally sound congregation with over 650 folks coming to hear him speak every Sunday.

Marco Island resident Bob Gaffney says “he does not give a good sermon, he gives a great one every week!” Our city councilman Chuck Kiester said “I am proud to call him my pastor.” Chuck is a regular deliveryman for meals on wheels to the shut in and elderly in our community.

We met up with these gentlemen at the home of Diane Cole, where the United Church is running an outreach to paint her house. At “91 years young” this ex-Vaudeville performer and ex-Marriott Hotel “reverse aging” consultant would love for you to stop by anytime and visit her and dog Spanke.

Stop by and lend a hand as the Untied Church paints this fixed income senior celebrity’s home in our community. What a great way to teach our children, compassion. Call Pastor Dick at 394-6572 and offer to help.

The United church runs the not for profit Bargain Basket Thrift Shop on our island that so many of us enjoy. Our Bargain Basket was unfortunately hit with a serious rent increase in their leased space and was faced with the thought of going out of business. A blessing occurred in the opportunity to take over the Kimball Building at 750 Bald Eagle Drive, just a few buildings away from there current location. The Bargain Basket will move into this wonderful new space in September. They are open now Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In the new location The Bargain Basket will be open six days a week, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fantastic, we will be able to hunt for treasures twice as often. I will see you there! Call (239) 394-6640 for more information.

Ask for Sandy and tell her Uncle Bob sent you.
