Naples Junior Bridge’s first Bridge Club started this past year at the Naples High School with 12 students and the Club enjoyed a good year. Plans are to have Clubs in more schools this fall and as the students become more proficient inter school competition is a possibility. Bridge is a wonderful card game that provides the player with the opportunity to solve problems, and evaluate and focus on the information gleaned from the bidding. Duplicate bridge is the game being taught as this style of the game allows pairs an even playing field to test their skills. Each pair is playing against all other pairs sitting in their direction, East/West against East/West, North South against North/South.
Duplicate bridge is played in most every country in the world. The game can be played for fun in the home or the local bridge clubs. The American Contract Bridge League oversees the Rules and Laws of the game and provides classes for directors and teachers. The organization provides support and supplies for the Junior Bridge Classes and asks that members encourage students to learn the game.
If you know of some students that qualify to join the summer camp, please direct them to Golden Gate Library next month. (239-252-4542)
