TALLAHASSEE - Wealthy Naples businessman Rick Scott attracted a full house for his capital city debut as a Republican candidate for governor.
Scott, who filed his official paperwork for the governor's race earlier Thursday, drew an estimated crowd of roughly 500 to a Tallahassee civic center ballroom.
Scott spoke briefly about his background and goals before taking questions for another 20 minutes from people in the audience.
Scott has rocketed from anonymity to a double-digit lead over Attorney General Bill McCollum in the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, according to a Quinnipiac University poll last week.
Scott has used millions of his own dollars to saturate Florida airways to introduce himself to voters.
