MARCO ISLAND — Though neither are actually named Veterans' Park, two locations on Island often get called the same thing.
Veterans’ Community Park and Veterans’ Memorial Park are two Marco Island parks bearing very similar names. The city wants citizens to help rename the Veterans’ Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Collier Boulevard and North Barfield Drive.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) selected, during a meeting on Feb. 16, the following names as finalists from various submissions from local residents: Celebration Park, Paradise Park, Visionary Park and Founders Park.
The residents of Marco Island are now invited to go to the city’s Web site, cityofmarcoisland.com, and vote in the park renaming section located in the middle of the front page.
Voters may also e-mail their desired park name selection to Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Milk, Bmilk@cityofmarcoisland.com, from now through March 15.
The PRAC will record the votes on March 16 and submit them to the City Council for final action on April 5.

How about naming the small park for those vets who REALLY did do something brave...
...while naming the much, much larger park after those old geezers who never stop boasting how they won whatever the war was almost single-handedly?

Glenn would be a good pick, he was a Line Office on a Sub during the Cuban Crisis.
Or Bill Moss,,didn't he earn a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in Vietnam?
I know several Councilmen, City Employees, and Citizens who are real HEROS who don't talked about what they did before they came to Marco.
Why dont we just name it Citizens Park for every one that makes up this little piece of Sand.

Ok, lets make a deal with the syndicate.
We'll let you name City hall after Glenn Tucker.
We'll let you name the new bridge after Mike Minnozi.
We'll even let you name the new dog park after one of your own,Lazarus, Patterson, Moss - it doesn't matter.
All we(the taxpaying slubs) ask in return is that you rename Marco Man to Issler Man and stick Issler man in the middle of the dog park,
with the inscription: "kick up a leg my four legged furry friends and do what the rest of Marco Island does so well to me"

Whoops. Wrong Park! The Elkam Park should be Veterans's Memorial were more can see and appreciate it. The small park could be called "Don't blink or you will miss me Park"!

As a park this one is useless. Sell it and let Parks and Recreation use the funds at Veterans’ Community Park.

The Collier/Barfield Park should be named "the $275,000 no-name park!" Or, "Another useless expenditure Park"
