Sunset Grille won three games in a week, with two of them key to moving them into a first-place tie with Sand Bar and Nacho Mama’s in the Island Division.

Joey’s Pizza keeps rolling along, now at 17-0 and winner of the Marco Division.

ISLAND DIVISION

Bertram Orthopedics, 9, The Pub, 7

Rich Schiller, Herman Griffith and Dom Fiorda had three hits each for Bertram’s, with Jim Green, Dan Callahan and John DeRosa each driving in two runs. Butch Courson had three hits for The Pub, including a triple. Jack Balsamo and Courson each had two RBI.

Nacho Mama’s, 15, Rookies, 4

Nacho’s players Rich Krumholz, Bill Griffin, Mike Galatis, Larry Anspach and Jerry Engel each had three hits. Jim Cuevas had a two-run homer and Krumholz a solo shot. Galatis, Jerry Engel, and Tom Angelo had triples, with Angelo driving in four runs. Rookies’ Roger Fleming and Scott Byers slammed triples.

Sunset Grille, 11, Sand Bar, 5

Sunset Grille sunk Sand Bar as the Grille’s Jack Mateja and Dan Dumbauld lined four hits each. Craig Cunningham, Mike Hopkins, Ron Hobson and Ray Niemeyer each had two hits. Sand Bar’s Bob Levasseur had three hits, with Bill Thompson, Denny Lello, Roy Herns and Tom Pugh adding two hits each.

Nacho Mama’s, 6, Sand Bar, 2

In a pitcher’s duel Bill Griffin bested Ron Engel by limiting Sand Bar to six hits. Nacho exploded for five runs in the second inning. Jerry Engle, Tom Angelo, Jeff Hultgren and Jimmy Cuevas had two hits each for Nacho’s. Engel and Hultgren had two RBI. Joe Cervelli had two hits for Sand Bar, including a run-scoring triple.

The Pub, 13, Rookies, 9

Pitcher Lou Wolfenson contributed to his win with three hits, including solo home run and drove in three runs. Tom Porter and Charley Zimmer also had three hits, with Fran Roche and Fran Diotte driving in two runs for The Pub. Roger Fleming of Rookies had two hits, including a three-run homer. John Remhoff had three hits and Ralph Leiterding had two RBI.

Sunset Grille, 19, Bertram Orthopedics, 11

Mike Hopkins had six RBI in the game with four on a grand slam home run for the Grille. Murph Knapke recorded four hits, with Craig Cunningham, Jim George, Jack Mateja, Bill Shurina and Jerry Cnudde having three hits each. Cunningham slammed a home run on his way to a five RBI game. Shurina knocked in four runs and Cnudde two. Bertram’s Dom Fiorda hammered out four hits, with two RBI and John Cavanagh had three hits. Herman Griffith cracked a two-run homer and Ed Hamill stroked a triple.

Sand Bar, 10, The Pub, 2

Tom Pugh, Ron Engels, and John Luegering had two RBI each for Sand Bar. Pugh, Denny Lello and Joe Cervelli had two hits each, with Luegering blasting a two-run homer and Lello a triple. Paul Vorwich and George Schnorr had two hits each for The Pub.

Sunset Grille, 17, Nacho Mama’s, 3

Sunset Grille pounded out 27 hits as it moved into a first place tie. Jim George had four hits, with Jack Mateja, Bill Shurina, Ron Hobson, and Larry Tuttle adding three hits each. Mateja and Craig Cunningham each launched towering three-run home runs, with Murph Knapke hitting a two-run triple. Jim Green had three hits for Nacho’s and Tom Angelo blasted a two-run home run.

Bertram Orthopedics, 13, Rookies, 4

Bertram’s Jim Green had a three home run and Herm Griffith a two-run shot. Dan Callahan and John Cavanagh drove in two runs each. Winning pitcher Bill Kaschube limited Rookies to six hits, with Nick Brooks and Al Bozzo having two each.

MARCO DIVISION

Joey’s Pizza, 8, Marco Community Bank, 3

Joey’s clinched the Marco Division season title with their win and still undefeated at 17-0. Lee Dilk had three hits, including a triple. Jack Stevenson and Fred Kramer had two hits each with Kramer hitting a homer. Bob Kirsinger drove in two runs. Bruce Steele and Murph Knapke had two hits apiece for the Bank.

ADKOS, 6, Crazy Flamingo’s, 3

In a low-scoring game, ADKOS broke through, scoring three runs in the fifth for the win. Dick Amiott, Pat Coraggio and Chet Dal Bianco all had two hits and a RBI for ADKOS. Crazy Flamingo’s Bob Grim and Jim Langdon had two hits each, with John Remhoff stroking a solo home run.

CJ’s on the Bay, 11, Islander Restaurant, 8

CJ’s Mike Gardner cracked a three-run home run and Jake Jacobson drove in three runs for the win. Bob Zinkevicz survived a first inning five-run assault by the Islander, with the key blow being a three-run homer by Danny O’Sullivan, who also slammed out a solo homer in the seventh. Butch Monson and Dan Stanard each had two hits, including a Stanard triple.

Island Division standings

Sunset Grille, Nacho Mama’s and Sand Bar each 13-5, The Pub, and Bertram Orthopedics, 7-11 and Rookies, 1-17.

Marco Division standings

Joey’s Pizza, 7-0, Marco Community Bank, 10-7, Islander Restaurant and ADKOS, 8-9, CJ’s on the Bay, 7-10 and Crazy Flamingo’s, 1-16.
