Here is a roundup of Lely sports results, provided by the coaches.
Girls lacrosse
The Lely girls came oh so close to notching its second win in a 8-7 loss to Palmetto Ridge.
“It was a tough game, the two teams were evenly matched,” coach Brad Bissell said.
Lely has come a long way from the first meeting with the Bears, losing by six-plus goals. “I’m thrilled with how far the girls have come in such a short time,” Bissell said. Scorers for the night were Hannah Skotzke, Chelsea Plishka, Justine Giles, and Margaux Meurgue.
Baseball
Lely took Palmetto Ridge to extra innings before losing, 7-4, in nine innings. The Trojans rapped out 12 hits, tying the game at 4-4 in the last inning to force extra innings.
Jesse Cirillo and Max Tyler has two hits each, with catcher Gonzalez slamming a double.
“It was a well-played game by both teams,” Lely coach Mike Miller said. “We had runners in scoring position in the final innings and hit the ball hard. We had the bases loaded in the final inning, but a hard-hit ball went for a double play to end our threat.”
Softball
“We had a tough week,” Coach Jess Millar said. “Against Naples we lost by the 10-run rule. We had our worst showing of the year against Naples. We committed seven errors and had only one base hit. Naples is a great team, but we beat ourselves.”
Against Palmetto Ridge on Friday the Trojans lost 11-7, but we played a much better game.
“It was quite a comeback,” Millar said. “We had nine hits, including two doubles and we had only one error. Our pitching was not as strong as the first time we faced Palmetto, but it was significantly better than the night before against Naples. We are a pretty young team, but it was nice to see the girls bounce back after such a disappointing loss on Thursday.
Tennis
Lely evened its record to 4-4 with a 5-2 win over Palmetto Ridge.
Matt Browne, Zak Rabani and Cody Mendel led in the win by taking singles matches and the Browne-Rabani team taking a doubles match.
