Friday night and Saturday will be the last basketball games. The OCMI basketball program had a great season and the kids really enjoyed learning the fundamentals of the game. Most of the games took place at Mackle Park. However, due to the unseasonably cold weather this season, we needed another venue for the Friday night games. Thankfully, the Charter School was gracious in letting our kids play in the school gym. The kids loved it. We would like to thank the Charter School for allowing the OCMI to use their facilities and especially Roger Raymond who volunteered his time every Friday night.

50/50 raffle

There is still time to get your 50/50 Raffle tickets at this weekend’s basketball games. Tickets are available for $1 each at the concession stand. The OCMI 50/50 Raffle drawing will be before the final game at 1 p.m., Saturday.

Soccer kicks off in two weeks

The spring soccer season begins the week of March 15 and will run through June 5. The program will focus on helping our youth learn the fundamental soccer skills, along with good sportsmanship and teamwork. Games will be played at Mackle Park and Veteran’s Park on Saturday afternoons, starting at 3 p.m. and into evening. The cost is $30, or $40 if payment received after March 12. You can register your child online at marcoptimistclub.org.

Junk in the trunk fundraiser

A new twist on the old-fashion garage sale. Load up your trunk and sell your “stuff” from the back of your vehicle. You bring the “junk” and we bring the people. Just drive up and sell it, all day March 27. Space is limited to the number of parking spaces available. Vendor fee is: $20 per vehicle fee.

Registration deadline is March 20. Visit marcooptimistclub.org to download an application.

OCMI Teams with Upon a Star

The Optimist Club has teamed up with Upon A Star Foundation to host this year’s Talk Derby to Me Fundraiser. The event will be on May 1 at Guy Harvey’s Restaurant on the same day as the Kentucky Derby.

This is a great opportunity for you to sponsor a horse and help to assure that every Marco Island area kid can participate in the programs available. There will be lots of food, drinks, live entertainment, raffles and contests. For more information, visit uponastarfoundation.org
