NAPLES — Despite being in the bottom three vote getters, and battling laryngitis, Paige Miles’ “American Idol” dreams will continue another week.
Lacey Brown, who was Miles’ roommate in Hollywood, was eliminated from the show. The judges declined to use their power to save the singer.
Tim Urban was also among the bottom three after a nationwide vote.
Miles, a 24-year-old teacher and Naples-native, has had a mixed run on the show. After not getting more than a few seconds of air time during the first few weeks, she got a high complement from notoriously cranky judge Simon Cowell who said she had maybe the best voice in the competition.
Since then, the judges agree that she hasn’t shown it. Other contestants, especially Siobahn Magnus, Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche, have been praised for knowing who they are as artists. But they have been heavy with criticism for Miles’ song selection.
While they weren’t thrilled with her choice of “Honky Tonk Women” for the Rolling Stones challenge, they did praise her vocals especially considering her illness.
“Taking that into account you did great,” Cowell said. “I still think you are better than that. You still haven’t quite connected. It was a very old fashioned performance.”
