TobyMac (whose real name is Toby Michael McKeehan) was one of the country’s first Christian rappers, starting out as a member of DC Talk, which performed from 1989 to 2000. Since then, he’s had a successful solo career — and a Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album last year.
TobyMac began his sold-out show Friday night at Germain Arena singing from a small stage in the crowd. He then “surfed” over the crowd to meet his band on the main stage.
Opening for TobyMac was Skillet, a Grammy-nominated Christian hard-rock band originally from Memphis.
