Crist says special session on oil spill possible

Gov. Charlie Crist says a special legislative session dealing with the oil spill's potential effects on Florida is a possibility.

Crist spoke Thursday at Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was joined by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. Nearby, BP crews unloaded long, yellow lines of boom from trucks.

Napolitano said nearly 60,000 feet of protective boom have been deployed off the coast of Florida to shield environmentally sensitive areas from potential oil damage. That's along with more than 100 miles of boom deployed elsewhere along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

She also said the Obama administration has approved the use of 2,500 National Guard troops from Florida to assist where needed.

Napolitano called the spill a "unique and still-evolving disaster."
