Local driver license bureau dedicated to Guy Carlton

Credited with reducing an average two- to three-hour wait at local driver license bureaus to 15 minutes, former Collier County Tax Collector Guy Carlton’s name now adorns the agency’s Airport-Pulling Road location.

At a dedication ceremony on Wednesday morning, the current tax collector, Larry H. Ray, and a crowd of other local public servants, employees, friends and family honored Carlton as the longest serving tax collector in county history.

According to Ray, Carlton oversaw the county’s population growth from 86,000 to 319,000 in his 28 years as tax collector. During that time, the county’s property tax roll grew from $55 million to over $900 million and Carlton oversaw the expansion of his agency with a computer-linked network of offices throughout the county.
