Deputies: East Naples man gets inside help to use stolen credit card at Wal-mart

— An East Naples man is accused of using another man’s credit card to make multiple purchases at Walmart.

Luis Gonzalez, 45, of 1100 block of Whistlers Cove, was charged Friday with scheme to defraud by Collier County deputies.

The credit card owner informed detectives that someone had made over three dozen unauthorized purchases with the card in excess of $5,000. Many of the purchases were made at the Walmart, located at 3451 U.S. 41 East.

After an investigation, detectives determined that Gonzalez was making purchases in the electronics department with the help of two cashiers. One cashier told detectives that Gonzalez would give them gift cards or store merchandise in exchange for using the fraudulent cards, according to the arrest report.

The arrest report indicated that Gonzalez used several other credit cards to make many of the purchases. Gonzalez was already in the Naples jail on possession of a controlled substance charge.

It is unclear if the Walmart cashiers were charged with a crime.
