A 36-year-old man is behind bars after Naples police say they found him sleeping on a bench near a toddler play area in Cambier Park with a can of Natural Ice beer in his pocket, his genitals exposed and his pants wet.

Richard Simpson, who lists his address as the St. Matthew’s House homeless shelter in East Naples, was charged with exposure of sexual organs.

Police were called to the park around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to an arrest report. When they arrived, they found Simpson lying on a bench, snoring loudly, with his hands behind his head.

Simpon’s genitals were exposed, his pants were wet, and he smelled of urine, reports said.

Officers took a photograph of Simpson, and then woke him. Simpson denied that he was sleeping. When told that his genitals were exposed, reports say he looked down, and then tucked them back into his pants.

Reports described Simpson as argumentative and belligerent. He had bloodshot, watery eyes, and smelled of alcohol, reports said.

While searching Simpson, officers found a can of Natural Ice beer in his pocket, which is a violation of city code.

Simpson was arrested in October after reports say he got into a fight with a grocery store owner, who refused to sell him beer because he "appeared to be drunk." After he was escorted out of the store, reports say, Simpson began banging on the front window and making derogatory comments about the store owner being a Muslim.
