TALLAHASSEE — Florida Republican Marco Rubio has $5.5 million in his campaign account as he heads into the last month of his U.S. Senate race.
He will report raising $5 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30. That breaks the record he set when he raised $4.5 million the quarter before, the most ever collected in three months for a Florida Senate race.
Rubio, with help from tea party activists, has raised $16 million so far.
He faces Democratic U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami and Gov. Charlie Crist, who left the GOP to run as an independent, in the general election. Crist and Meek have not yet released their fundraising totals for the last quarter.
Rubio's campaign says nearly 100,000 people have donated and most have not reached the maximum contribution level.
