NAPLES — The Prado Cinema Cafe in Bonita Springs was closed Wednesday afternoon, despite signs previously posted that announced the multiplex theater and restaurant would re-open for business.
“Yes ma'am, for good,” Jim Record, who was president and manager of the business, told a patron who came to the door Wednesday.
Record said the theater needed 5,000 patrons a week to stay afloat. Instead, the theater got 500 patrons a week, he said. The nearly $1 million a year cost of rent didn’t help either, he said.
Record was sympathetic to the plight of the people he hired. He acknowledged that they had not been paid. He said he had been given a few hundred dollars to clean the place out.
“We probably have one of the best crews around,” Record said, adding that he recruited them. “It makes me sad.”
About a dozen employees of the shuttered business gathered outside Wednesday, to protest, vent and plan what they will do to get their money.
