LEE COUNTY — A 3-year-old girl found Thursday in a South Fort Myers pool was hospitalized in critical condition.
The girl, whose name was not released, and her siblings were being watched by the girl’s father’s girlfriend at 7:40 p.m. Thursday at a house in the 9700 block of Mendocino Drive, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The father, Leon Michael Weeks, 27, told deputies he was on the phone with his mother while his girlfriend, Lysandra Gerber, 23, was watching the children. He heard screams, ran downstairs and found the girl in the pool. He jumped in and pulled the girl out, according to the report. The father was hysterical when deputies arrived.
A third person, Tara L. Weeks, 27, of Georgia, is listed as a witness. It was not in the report how she is related to the father.
The girl was taken to HealthPark Medical Center for treatment and placed into the intensive care unit, according to the report.
Lee Sheriff’s spokesman John Sheehan said the girl was listed in critical condition Friday morning.
A baby gate was not around the pool, according to the report.
The home is owned by Dean and Cynthia Gerber, Lee County Property Appraiser online records show.
