Golden Gate Boulevard West
Fire fighters battled a blaze in Golden Gate Estates Wednesday.
“The home is fully engulfed. No one was inside,” Collier County Sheriff’s Office officials said just before 5 p.m.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the call came in at 4:36 p.m. and both fire fighters and deputies responded to the scene at 1361 Golden Gate Boulevard West.
When firefighters got to the home, there was heavy black smoke coming from the right side, said Golden Gate Fire Control and Rescue District Chief Bob Metzger.
Crews noticed the roof burning and pulled back to defensive mode because it is dangerous to fight an overhead fire, Metzger said.
The owner of the house wasn’t home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Metzger said. A fire marshal will investigate. A few factors about the fire concern officials, including the time of day it started, the fact that it was on a busy road and how much had already burned before firefighters were called, Metzger said.
Westbound traffic west of 13th Street S.W. on Golden Gate Blvd. was being diverted.
