NAPLES — Unmasked: Man accused of wearing Halloween costume in store robbery

An armed robbery suspect who wore an “old man’s” mask to rob the BP Kangaroo gas station at 6065 Pine Ridge Road a week ago was arrested Thursday after Collier County Sheriff’s Office authorities were able to identify and track down the getaway car.

Michael J. Buckley, 23, whose address is only listed as Coral Palms apartments in Naples, was arrested Thursday for armed robbery and theft, according to reports.

On Wednesday, Sept. 8, one employee in the gas station had just gotten off work and was purchasing some items when she felt a hand gun in her ribs and the suspect demand money from the other employee behind the counter, according to reports.

The suspect was wearing a yellow mask and a long-sleeved mustard colored sweatshirt and green shorts. The suspect then pointed the handgun at the clerk behind the counter and grabbed money from the cashier when the clerk pulled it out of the drawer.

The suspect fled the gas station and got into the driver’s seat of a silver sedan and left the parking lot and turned the wrong way onto Napa Boulevard.

The next day, the gas station’s surveillance tape showed the silver car with a dent and the first number of the license plate could nearly be identified. A search through a database identified a silver Suzuki Forenza that was registered to the suspect.

The suspect was tracked down Thursday to a Golden Gate residence and the owner, not the suspect, consented to a search. In one of the bedrooms, clothing matching a mustard-colored sweatshirt and the mask was found.
