They are big and they are loud

The Gulf Coast High School Shark Marching Band is big and loud.

“We’re the biggest marching band in the state of Florida,” said band director Steve Deladurantey.

The 365-member band plays an integral part of the Friday night football experience providing spirit and entertainment at the games. This year’s halftime show features high-energy rock songs such as “Born To Be Wild” and “Centerfold.”

“We try our hardest just to get everyone excited,” said one of the drum majors, Catherine Shramm. “I think we are one of the most spirited bands.”

In addition to playing regularly at Friday night football games the band will perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando on Saturday in the “Dreams Come True Parade.” The band is also traveling across the country to California in November to play at the “Hollywood Christmas Parade.”

“This band is a ton of fun,” said Deladurantey. “The kids work very, very hard and they’re excited to be in the band program.”
