Brush fire closes down part of U.S. 41's East Trail

A 5-acre brush fire along U.S. 41 E, 2 miles east of Collier Boulevard, was gotten under control quickly on this afternoon.

The East Naples Fire-Rescue was called at 12:30 p.m. on the fire, which was near Henderson Creek Trailer Park.

Kingman Schuldt, East Naples deputy fire chief, said the cause was not known, but said, "High winds and humidity make for a perfect recipe for a fire."

Along with East Naples were fire-rescue units from Isles of Capri, Marco Island and Golden Gate, along with a special water truck from the state Department of Forestry.

"They all responded for water resources and manpower," Schuldt said. Department of Forestry personnel walked the perimeter of the fire zone for fire breaks, but no additional action was needed.

Traffic heading east on U.S. 41 is being diverted at Collier Boulevard because of a brush fire. The westbound traffic on U.S. 41 is being diverted at Manatee.
