On behalf of the Collier County School Board, I wish to invite you to join us as board members welcome the superintendent candidates who will be visiting our school district April 18th through the 20th.
In addition to the School Board interviews with the candidates beginning at 8 a.m. or shortly thereafter on the 18th, you are cordially invited to attend a public reception (one of those familiar “meet-and-greet” kind of events) beginning at 5:30 p.m. on April 19th, to be followed at 6:30 p.m. by a public forum featuring the candidates.
WINK-TV news anchor Lois Thome has graciously agreed to be our moderator as the candidates will field questions posed by her on your behalf. Both the reception and the forum will take place at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administrative Center (behind Barron Collier High School) in Naples.
So you ask, “How many superintendent candidates are we expecting?” Well, we won’t know until the board’s search firm, Ray and Associates, presents superintendent applications to board members the afternoon of April 14th.
During a special School Board meeting beginning at 1 p.m. that day, board members will select a pool of applicants that will be invited for the district visits and interviews, to be conducted by the board, and expected to last all day, on April 18th. Final interviews will be conducted beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20th, and a new superintendent is expected to be selected following the interviews.
From the start, the search for a new Collier County Public Schools superintendent has been totally open to you as a community member. It began with the hiring of the national search firm and numerous meetings held for the purpose of seeking your input as to the characteristics and qualities desired in the person to be hired. An online survey was also successfully used to seek input. So your feedback has most certainly been included.
And with the public reception and form for the superintendent candidates that you are invited to attend, the openness continues. I know that the School Board members would like to see you at both events and are hoping that you take advantage of the opportunity.
