NAPLES — Norman Love Confections, the award-winning Fort Myers confectioner, now has a chocolate salon in Naples, as well.
Love has opened a store at Parkshore Plaza, 3747 U.S. 41 N., Naples. This is the place to get delectable confections that include fine dark chocolates, milk chocolates, white chocolates, gourmet chocolate truffles, s’mores, specialty coffees, cappuccinos, smoothies, hot chocolate, hot and iced tea, European sodas, croissants, muffins, Danish, cookies, brownies, biscotti, pastries, pies, cookies and — not here yet, but coming soon, gelato — from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. This will be a go-to place to fill your sweet tooth, to purchase a special dessert or just to relax with a coffee and pastry on site for a sweet spot during your day.
The space inside is like being in one of Love’s own chocolate boxes. The store’s fixtures, tables, chairs and walls are chocolate brown — of course — with touches of lime green, both of them Love’s signature colors. The colorful chocolates, which come in a rainbow of shades and fanciful shapes, and the artfully created pastries in the refrigerated case dominate the space. The store is opening just in time to offer a variety of Easter confections as well.
Love has been creating handcrafted chocolates since 2001 when he and his wife, Mary, founded Norman Love Confections in Fort Myers. Today his chocolates are sold at restaurants, hotels and gift shops in Florida from Miami to Tampa and in California, Louisiana, Michigan, Rochester, N.Y., Pennsylvania, Virginia and Rhode Island. He started his career studying pastry making in France and was the executive pastry chef for the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton hotels.
Love eventually became the corporate executive pastry chef for the Ritz-Carlton chain and in 13 years opened 30 hotel and resort pastry kitchens for it. He was named one of the top 10 pastry chefs in 1996 and 1997 by “Chocolatier and Pastry Art and Design” magazine, and in 1999 he led the U.S. team to a bronze medal in the Coup du Monde de la Patisserie, the World Cup of pastry.
His own love of chocolate led him to start Norman Love Confections. In 2009 Love was named one of the top 10 chocolatiers in North America by “Dessert Magazine.” In 2010 Nathaniel Reid joined the company as pastry chef. Reid is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and was selected as U.S. Pastry Competition Pastry Chef of the Year 2010 in New York City. He was executive pastry chef at the St. Regis Hotel in Dana Point, Calif., before coming to Florida.
Life in paradise just went up a few notches with the opening of this European style salon. How can we not enjoy a place with love in the name?
