Ronald McDonald Classic golf tourney is hole-in-one for local children in need

If you like spending time on the links and you also like salty french fries and juicy Big Mac’s, then there’s a good likelihood that you’re going to love the upcoming charity golf tournament for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.

The fifth annual fundraiser, which raised $132,000 for the program last year, will be held April 15 at Quail West Golf and Country Club in North Naples.

When it comes to children with medical needs in Collier County, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile delivers quality healthcare every time. The bus brings talented medical professionals directly to high-risk families in the community. Services provided include everything from dental hygiene to wellness checks, and speedy accessibility to preventative healthcare.

When it comes through neighborhoods, Ronald McDonald waves at onlookers, painted in his famous colors on the side of the 40-foot bus. At 8 feet wide, the bus is completely decked out with a pediatric office inside. Some of the services the Care Mobile Provides are:

• Screenings for dental health, growth and development, hearing and vision

• Follow-up dental treatments

• Physicals required for new students entering schools

• Nutritional and dental education to children and their families

• Eye exams and glasses for children who would otherwise go without

• Referrals to primary/medical providers

In partnership with CHS Healthcare, the bus delivers “Hope on Wheels” to children who need help in accessing quality medical care and expertise within its coverage area.

Joining together for the upcoming golf tournament, a committee met recently to plan the event with equal enthusiasm as the doctors who provide care to fragile patients inside the Care Mobile.

Their recent brainstorming session at the offices of Lowry Hill, had all the makings of a successful fundraising collaboration. The committee was ready to swing into action, from organizing silent auction items, to mulligans, to details of when scheduled tee-offs would take place was ironed out in a roundtable discussion.

“The most important thing about the golf tournament is the fact that it helps keep the Care Mobile on the road taking care of the healthcare needs of the children of Collier County,” said Emily Watt, the committee’s chairwoman.

“Our goal is to have 100 golfers,” added Frank Gorke, co-chair of the benefit. “We’re very close,” he said with relief about participation, thus far.

“Over the course of the last six years, the Care Mobile served more than 13,000 children with their dental and medical needs. The community support for this golf outing will allow us to continue this great work,” said Gorke.

“Sponsors really make a difference in this fifth annual event,” said Kristin Abreu, “and we especially want to welcome back Arthrex as the tournament sponsor. We also want to recognize our corporate partners, such as Lowry Hill and Integral Quality Care, and TIB Bank, as well as our many other sponsors.”

If golf is not your game, another special event for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will be held at California Pizza Kitchen on April 13, where 20 percent of the total bill will be donated to keeping children healthy. Flyers for this event can be found at www.collier.org.
