Barron Collier got the clutch hits when it needed them to oust the Lely girls softball team, 6-0, in the first round of the Class 4A-District 12 playoffs on Monday night.
The Lady Cougars scored two runs each in the second, fourth and fifth innings.
Lely’s Lisa Feola pitched four innings before her ailing right shoulder caused her to be relieved by Gabi Pozo.
Feola led the Lady Trojans offensively with three hits. Susanna Martinez knocked out two hits and had a stolen base. Andrea Tanguma slammed a double.
Barron’s Lexi Corrente slammed a double and triple, knocking in three runs. She also had a steal of home when a delayed steal to second drew a throw and Corrente came home from third base on the play.
Lely made four errors that kept innings going where runs were scored, but overall played well. Tanguma at third and Sadie Fox at shortstop had strong defensive efforts.
Barron Collier moves on to face Palmetto Ridge in the 4A-12 semifinals at Golden Gate on Wednesday night.
