Just like years past, the Marco Island Charter Middle School co-ed tennis team went undefeated.
They won the regular season and the Sunshine Athetic Conference Tennis Championships.
Raul Rodriguez won first-seed singles, and Ryan McCarty won second-seed singles.
First doubles winners were Casey Mendel and Peter Servente. Second doubles champs were Max Frimberger and Tatia Ghviniashvili.
Also winning honors was Jordan Canady in singles and Stephanie Alvarez and Lexie Lundquist in doubles.
The tennis program grew this year, with more county and private schools participating.
Second-year coach Jerra Minning also grew into her role.
“ For me, personally, the program ran more smoothly,” she said. “I knew exactly what I wanted to work on with my players. Also, I am completely comfortable now with how the middle school program works and the expectations.”
Minning credited assistant coach Kathy Mendel with “being an integral part of the success of our team and she will be greatly missed next year.”
Daughter Casey moves on to high school next season.
Minning also said, “The parents were extremely supportive and made this year a huge success on the court and off. Coaching tennis for Marco Charter Middle is a pleasure and an honor.”
