GOLDEN GATE ESTATES — As strong storms made their way through Naples, an update on the containment of the “Slope” fire was released Saturday afternoon by Division of Forestry Spokesman Victor Hill.
The fire, which has burned 2,824 acres in Golden Gate Estates, is now 80 percent contained, Hill said, adding that rainfall from Friday night slightly helped. Golden Gate Fire and Division of Forestry crews will be out until 7 p.m. working on mop up.
“The Division of Forestry will handle it (Sunday),” Hill said, noting that Golden Gate Fire would not be out on the scene.
Hill said crews will continue monitoring the weather and storm system moving through the area Saturday evening, and voiced concern over the possible lightning strikes in other areas.
The threat of more fires will depend on how much rain falls on top, and where the fire is located, Hill said.
