An East Naples man who is a registered sex offender is accused of peeping in the windows of an East Naples home as two young girls showered and watched television in mid-July.
Leslie Theodore Brew, 35, told authorities that his family abandoned him and that he enjoys seeing other families because he misses it, according to an incident report.
Brew, who lives at the first block of Derhenson Drive, East Naples, was arrested by Collier deputies on warrants charging him with voyeurism, trespass of an occupied structure and loitering/prowling.
When reached on the phone Monday night, Brew said “no comment” and hung up.
A deputy was on foot patrol in the Lely community on July 13, when he was met by a resident of Palmetto Dunes Circle, according to a press release.
The man said his 14-year-old daughter and her friend were watching a movie in the living room of their home in Torrey Pines Point when they noticed a man crouched on his hands and knees, watching them from inside the lanai. He ran away as soon as the girls spotted him.
The father told the deputy that he noticed a fresh cut on the lanai screen door where the prowler had entered. He also said he had seen a man ride by his house on a bike wearing a helmet around the time of the incident.
On July 18, the “peeping Tom” visited the house for a second time, this time outside the teen’s bedroom window, reports said.
The victim told her father that she heard noises outside her window and that she saw a shadow of person through the blinds. She also said she heard someone using the garden hose outside her window also, according to reports.
The victim’s father went outside and spotted a man running off into a wooded area.
The next day, deputies responded to a third incident at the victim’s home after the 14-year-old said she saw a dark figure outside her bathroom window while she was showering.
The father grabbed a hockey stick and found the man, whom he described as a tall husky male, outside his daughter’s window. He then told the man he was going to call authorities so the man fled into the woods, according to a press release.
On July 23, deputies spotted a man on a bike in the area of the golf course by Torrey Pines Point. The man low-crawled through the water and then put the bike over his shoulders.
Further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office identified Brew, a registered sex offender, as the “peeping Tom,” authorities said.
According to an incident report, Brew said that while riding his bike he got thirsty and saw a spigot at the victim’s home, so he used it to get a drink and rested for five minutes. He also admitted to picking a lemon from their neighbor’s tree.
Brew was arrested Friday at work, the Bike Route in the 600 block of U.S. 41 North.
Prosecutors approved warrants for Brew’s arrest on five misdemeanor counts. The girl’s family has applied for an injunction for protection against Brew.
Brew was convicted in June 1998 of attempting to perform a lewd act in the presence of a child, and sentenced to five years of sex-offender probation.
When reached for comment Monday night, the girl’s father credited the work of the Sheriff’s Office.
“They tried for weeks to catch him,” he said. “This is something he’s very practiced at.”
