Marco Island has an interim police chief.
Capt. David Baer is filling in following Chief Thom Carr’s retirement on July 26. Baer will serve in the top spot until former Collier County Sheriff Don Hunter is sworn in as police chief during a ceremony on Aug. 8 at the Marco Island Police Department.
State Representative Kathleen Passidomo is scheduled to speak at the event, as is Marco City Manager Jim Riviere, who named Hunter chief within weeks of Carr announcing his departure in early July. Hunter served as sheriff from 1989 until 2009.
