Gators are one step closer to coming to Tin City.
Mike Sturgill's request for a conditional use permit to offer tourists gator hugs and $5 photographs with alligators at a shop in Tin City was approved Wednesday morning by the Naples Planning Advisory Board, in a 5-1 vote, with board member Wafaa Assaad dissenting.
City Council is to consider whether to approve Sturgill's proposal for Alligator World in a meeting scheduled 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 21.
The approval process is needed because city code doesn't address whether animal exhibits are allowed in the waterfront commercial area of Tin City. Animal exhibits aren't listed as an explicit permissible land use, but could be considered consistent with the other nearby land uses, city officials said.
