Deputies: Toddler found wandering alone, mother arrested

— An East Naples woman is accused of leaving her toddler unattended after the child was found wandering the streets.

Bania Bautista, 25, of an address that was not released to protect the identity of the child, was arrested Monday by Collier deputies at home.

A woman told deputies that she found the toddler wandering the streets of a neighborhood alone.

According to reports, the woman knocked on the door of the residence where she believed the child lived but no one answered. She said she then brought the child back to her home while she waited for deputies.

Once on scene, deputies said they also attempted to knock on the door of the residence but only heard a small dog barking. Deputies then entered the home to ensure no one was in need of emergency assistance but did not find anyone inside, according to reports.

Deputies said that an hour later Bautista arrived home on a bicycle.

The deputies’ interview with Bautista was redacted from reports but deputies said that she was carrying a $50 bill on her when she arrived.

Bautista faces a felony charge of child neglect without great bodily harm for leaving her toddler unattended for an estimated two hours.
