A Fort Myers man charged in the April killing of an Estero woman was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday in an unrelated case, his lawyer said.
Christopher Neuberger, 26, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing a firearm while a convicted felon and renting a structure with the intent to traffic drugs, lawyer James Ermacora said. The charges stem from a January arrest.
Three months after that arrest, Neuberger was linked to the death of Mary Ann Zarb, 64, whose body was found near the Lee County-Charlotte County line. Neuberger and Shane Simpkins, 24, have both been charged with first-degree murder in Zarb's death.
Investigators have said money was a possible motive. Five checks totaling $25,600 were cashed to Simpkins from Zarb's account the day of her disappearance.
A case management conference was held Thursday in the murder case. A trial date remains far off, Ermacora said.
