NAPLES — Members of Occupy Naples will gather this afternoon on Fifth Avenue South to promote the local economy.
Group members plan to distribute informational flyers on the importance of shopping at local businesses and dining at local restaurants. The gathering is schedule to begin at 4 p.m. today in front of Bank of America's ATM at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Eighth Street South.
Flyers discouraging the use of corporate banks and encouraging local credit unions or community banks will be distributed by Occupy Naples, which hopes to engage holiday shoppers in positive dialogue about supporting the local economy, according to a news release.
“Shop local. Keep OUR dollars in OUR community and keep OUR neighbors employed,” reads one flyer, in part. “Big box stores donate millions to both parties in order to control politicians who write laws that favor corporate interests without regard to the economy, the environment, and human rights.”
