Hideaway Beach starts off another year supporting cancer with its 6th annual Hideaway Beach Cancer Committee Golf Auction. This past Sunday, January 30th, close to 100 golfers gathered at the Hideaway Beach Golf and Tennis Club for a shotgun start to see who can get closest to the pin and also closest to the fairway centerline. Individual prizes were awarded as well as team awards to the top five teams.

Following afternoon golf was a dinner auction which included an exquisite dinner, raffle, silent auction and a very unique live auction. There were over 150 in attendance. Hundreds of items and services provided by Marco Island and Goodland merchants as well as Hideaway members were auctioned off. Founder and organizer Bill Dean, along with the entire committee hoped to surpass last years $97,000 raised for the American Cancer Society. Much of the money raised supports R.O.C.K., a camp for children with cancer, as well as other cancer related services for the Marco community. The remaining amount goes towards cancer research.

The highlight of the auction was the “Queen for a Day at the Royal Wedding” package. The winners, Donna and Randy Moity will join hosts, Dolores and Gene Siegal at their Hideaway Beach residence to watch the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This alone raised $2400.00.

“After moving to Naples from Boston quite a few years ago, all it took was one look at Hideaway Beach, I fell in love with it, it was simply so beautiful” said Diane Kennedy who is now a 13-year resident.
